CWA's Spring Fling

Special guest Rosellen Brown, author of the best seller "Before and After"On April 25, 2009, the Chicago Writers Association (CWA) will host its Spring Fling, an event to celebrate the association’s rebirth as a federally registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The Spring Fling celebration will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at Mad River Bar and Grille (2909 N. Sheffield) in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood.

Live music by Tony Maguire of the power alt-pop band, Farkus Guests will enjoy unlimited domestic drafts, wine, pizza, and pasta as well as live entertainment courtesy of Tony Maguire of the power alt-pop band, Farkus. A raffle will include such great prizes as Cubs tickets, signed books, gift baskets, iTunes gift cards, and CWA apparel. The cost will be $20 for CWA members and $25 for non-members.

 Also at the April 25 celebration, CWA Board Member Don Evans will announce plans for a Chicago Writers Hall of Fame, an exciting venture that will recognize the city’s rich literary history. Guests will also learn about additional CWA plans, including participation in the renowned Printer’s Row Lit Fest, a mentoring program for teen writers, critique groups, writing contests, and seminars. Special guests include award-winning author Rosellen Brown ("Before and After") and Lake Claremont Press publisher Sharon Woodhouse.

Including aspiring novelists to published authors, journalists, and poets, the CWA dedicates itself to promoting the 4 C's of writing—creativity, commerce, craft and community—by: fostering a visible, supportive writing community; providing genuine, constructive feedback and access to resources; assisting writers at all levels to achieve their writing goals; building a bridge to unite all facets of Chicago's diverse literary culture; and promoting Chicago as a place of literary distinction.
